How to Make a Reproduction Box Lid

Back in December of 2015, I bought a Crosman 451. It’s a 1969/70 CO2 .22 Colt 45 replica with semi-auto style blow-back action. I had actually been given one by my father some years earlier and had fallen deeply in love with these rare vintage air pistols ever since. However, as with many vintage air pistols, the one my father bought was without its box. I purchased my own 451 from a Canadian dealer and had it shipped to England. Weihrauch HW45 Custom Pistol Case

Making custom fit cases is just one of the many things that I enjoy doing. I find it immensely rewarding to see the finished product with shapes cut out to perfectly fit the form of each part that needs to be carefully stored. I started making custom foam-lined cases in the winter of 2008 when I decided to make a custom flight case, well two, for my telescope, accessories and mount. Perhaps some have no box at all. Many either buy replica boxes, such as those available for the Webley air pistols or keep them in generic plastic foam lined pistol cases. Either option isn’t cheap. Especially so if you have a fair number of pistols. The plastic foam-lined cases are very big when compared to the pistol they will contain. Even if it will hold two pistols. They are intended to be used for transportation and are generally larger to offer improved protection over a cardboard box.

Cardboard Airgun Box Repair

Recently, Jimmie Dee’s Airguns acquired two FB Record LP1 air pistols. Both were complete with an instruction manual and box. However, both boxes were missing the tabs and all bar one end flap had been severed through wear and use. Luckily, the previous owner had kept all of the severed pieces inside the boxes rather than relegate them to the waste bin. I decided that as I had all the main pieces, why not try to repair the boxes.
